Hi! I’m Jason Halley. I’m a student at Edinburgh Napier University, studying Cybersecurity & Forensics. I’ve just returned from a 12-month placement within the threat intelligence team of a cybersecurity firm, and am completing my studies for my undergraduate degree. My Honours project concerns the capture and analysis of bluetooth fitness tracking devices.

Outside of university, I attend a lot of industry events and have even spoken at events including BSides Belfast 2019, and Cyber Scotland Connect open mic night. I’ve also been master of ceremonies for a track at the inaugral BSides Cymru 2019, and have worked on a number of events organised by The Cyber Academy.

My other hobbies include PC gaming, particularly simulator games, and I hope to start playing airsoft soon.

IRL appearances

I spoke at BSides Belfast in 2019, this was my first talk at a conference. My talk title was: Titanics of Security: Users Aren’t the Only Problem. Watch it below:

In 2022, I completed my dissertation on Bluetooth fitness tracker security, and also presented my research at Le Tour Du Hack 2022. The recording is below, but beware, you may throw your FitBit in the trash after watching:
